The long-awaited introduction of chess classes for adults is coming to Melbourne Chess Club!

Every Wednesday evening Melbourne Chess Club will be running 2 coaching session parallel to Social Night.

This way players can learn and then immediately test their knowledge in some casual games.
All lessons done in a interactive lecture format.

All sessions are walk-in, no need to register in advance!

FIRST MOVES (Beginner Class 6pm-7pm)

This offering from 6-7pm is a beginner class aimed at people new to chess or are still getting a grasp of the rules and concepts like checkmate, development, king safety, and others. A guideline for people unsure is if your rating on online sites like chess.com is under 1000. The goal of this session is to get people learning the rules, and give them the confidence to play anyone, even if just to learn from the game.

NEXT MOVES (Intermediate Class 7pm-8pm)

Conversely, this offering from 7-8pm is an intermediate class aimed at people who have a solid grasp of the rules but would like to expand their tactical and strategical prowess of the game. This class will focus on tactical concepts and puzzles, as well as some basic positional ideas. A guideline for people unsure is if your rating on online sites like chess.com is under 1500. The goal of this session is to get people who are interested to improve their game, and hopefully develop the confidence to play a tournament.

COACH – DANIEL POBEREZOVSKY

Daniel is an experienced chess player of 15+ years. Over that time he has accrued a FIDE rating of 1950, and can be considered an expert level player. He has played all over Australia and has valuable insights into the game and how to learn it effectively. He has a passion to introduce the game as far and wide as possible, and grow the Melbourne Chess Community to include those that only picked up the game later in life.
