Melbourne Chess Club is Victoria's biggest chess club. Membership comes with extensive benefits.
Continuing club members from 2023 can renew their membership for 2024 at a discounted rate compared to new members joining this year.
Why join MCC?
Discounts for all tournaments,
Free entry to Wednesday Social Night,
Free entry to the club premises for social chess,
Eligibility to play in the Club Championships,
Eligibility to vote at the AGM (must be over 18), and
To be part of the MCC community.
Membership conditions
Membership is by application. All memberships need to be accepted by the committee.
Half year memberships are usually available around June.
From 1st November to 31st December each year, a new member may apply for a full year's membership for the following year, and get most the financial benefits of the remaining current year. For Country memberships you must be living at least 50km from MCC. Family memberships are for direct family, with a maximum of two adults but unlimited children, per family membership. Please note the intention of this membership is to support families with children and therefore the membership must include a junior.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome at the club! You don't have to sign up for a membership: the first visit to the club is free, and subsequent visits cost a $5 visitors fee.
We strongly recommend membership however!
Where does the money go?
The MCC is run entirely by member volunteers. All money paid to the club goes back into events (mostly prize-money) and the maintenance of club facilities.
Players of all strengths have the chance to win prize-money thanks to "rating categories" (Open, A, B and C group prizes, for example).
Code of Conduct
All members are expected to abide to the letter (and the spirit) of the MCC Code of Conduct.
Broadly speaking, the Club expects its members to contribute to a friendly and encouraging atmosphere in which we can all enjoy chess.
